This is a day of exploring the craft of traditional storytelling: how to bring a tale to life and tell it live with rich imagination, playfulness and skill.
Suitable for complete beginners and those with some experience, the workshop will explore techniques, exercises and games for learning and sharing stories without needing a script.
A day of easy play with words, movement and - most importantly - imagination, a chance to get creative, and also to spend some time with the wisdom of folk and fairy tales.
The course also provides transferable skills for public speaking and presenting in an engaging and captivating way.
During the session we will look at:
- The power of the storyteller’s own imagination and creative craft
- Ways to remember stories without learning a script
- Techniques for making live storytelling vivid and engaging - how to open up the cinema in your listeners' minds and transport people deep into the pictorial realms of wonder, delight and wisdom that the old tales carry.
- Ingredients for building your confidence with taking the floor and sharing stories, whether you’re an experienced performer/public speaker, or trying it for the first time.
- And more!
There will be the opportunity to do a scratch sharing of a story at the end of the day.
No need to bring anything with you or prepare anything in advance, and no need to have experience. Just bring yourself and a love of or curiosity about stories!
